Barcelona - Deportivo, 3:3

Share |

Barcelona surrendered a two-goal lead in a pulsating draw at Deportivo. Samuel Eto'o scored and Ronaldinho added two more for a 3-1 advantage, but late strikes by Pedro Munitis and Rubén Castro earned the Galicians a point.

Deportivo went in front on ten minutes when Munitis's shot cannoned back off the post and Juan Carlos Valerón pounced on the rebound. Barça levelled on 40 minutes when Eto'o volleyed home Deco's pass. Four minutes later Barça led after Ronaldinho produced a brilliant close-range flick. It looked like game over when Ronaldinho despatched a penalty early in the second half, but Munitis pulled one back with a superb curling shot and Castro rammed home the equaliser with four minutes left.

"It's a pity because I thought we gave a good impression and deserved more - we played well but that does not count if you do not win," said coach Frank Rijkaard. "When you find yourselves 3-1 in front, the usual outcome is that you go on to win the game - that wasn't the case today."

Midfielder Thiago Motta had to make do with a place on the bench after returning from injury, while Sylvinho occupied the left-back slot instead of Giovanni van Bronckhorst. Xavi Hernández returned to the centre of midfield at Mark van Bommel's expense.
