Kings of Europe

Share |

Barcelona is the new king of Europe after defeating a very hard-to-die Arsenal. The final ended 2-1, and the fans were more than happy. This Champions League final encounter between the Spanish and English sides at the Stade de France in Paris might not have matched last season's final in terms of goals, but it will go down in history as one of the most memorable games that left supporters at the edge of their seats from the kick off to the last minute.

Arsenal started off the match on a more positive attitude. But When goalkeeper Lehmann was sent off with a red card, everything turned blaugrana color. Barcelona dominated the game, with Ronaldinho and Deco controling the midfield. But despite that, Arsenal hit first: Sol Campbell scored at 38 minute and surprised everyone in the Stadium. Although Barcelona dominated all the match, they had to wait until minute 76 to see Samuel Eto'o score and tie the game.

And 5 minutes later, Barcelona's substitutions turned out to be inspired ones: Larsson once again was the provider (like in the first goal), this time for another substitute Juliano Belletti. From a tough position, Belletti hit a hopeful shot at Almunia, resulting in the ball deflecting off the goalkeeper's legs and remarkably into the roof of the net, sending Barca fans into rapture.

The game finished and the Spanish squad celebrated along with a whole nation. Ronaldinho, Deco, Eto'o, Marquez and all the players got their medals and hold the trophy: They are the new kings of Europe.
