Victory over Benfica to reach the semifinals

Share |

The first leg between Benfica and Barcelona showed an anxious Catalan side, trying to score but failing. And in this second leg, when Ronaldinho missed the penalty shot, most of the fans thought that the game will be very tough and breathtaking. And they were right.

Even though Ronaldinho score some minutes after his missed penalty, the tragic sensation was always there, until Samuel Eto'o scored in the last minute and sealed a pass to the semifinals. BArcelona got a 2-0 win on aggregate.

FC Barcelona reached the semi-final stage for the ninth time in history, and they will face Milan.

Indeed, Barca could have been eliminated at Camp Nou stadium if Luisao and Simao Sabrosa had scored from good opportunities in each half.

Frank Rijkaard congratulated his players and said it was a tense game.

''It's the same with all matches at this level. When you're 1-0 ahead there's no peace of mind. That's why we had to fight and battle until the end. I'm happy we scored a second goal,'' Rijkaard said.

The team and the city are celebrating. There will be time to worry about a very tough rival, dressed in red and black.
